Roles and permissions
Your customer account is either a Site Manager or a User. Your role determines which pages you can open; your site permissions determine what you can do on each site.
Customer roles
| Capability | Site Manager | User |
|---|---|---|
| Sites | Own sites and sites assigned to you | Assigned sites |
| Create sites | Within your plan and quota | Ask your site manager |
| Delete sites | Owned sites with manage permission | Ask your site manager |
| Files, analytics, and site logs | Accessible sites | Assigned sites, subject to permission |
| Databases and application controls | Sites you manage | Assigned sites with manage permission |
| SFTP account management | Owned sites you manage | Ask your site manager for an account |
| Users page | Create and manage your own User accounts | Not available |
| Account and two-factor authentication | Your own account | Your own account |
Site-level access levels
When a Site Manager assigns a User to a site, they choose an access level:
| Level | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Read | View the site's details, files, logs, and analytics |
| Write | Edit site content and use write-level actions available to the account |
| Manage | Use site configuration and management actions available for that role, including app controls and environment variables |
Site owners have manage permission on their sites. A manage grant does not change your account role or unlock pages outside that role.
Uploading files does not automatically give you permission to start an app. For Node.js, Start, Restart, Build & Restart, and Stop require manage permission.
If a site or action is missing
- Check that you signed in with the correct account.
- Ask your Site Manager to confirm that the site is assigned to you and that your access level matches the task.
- Check the site type: Node app controls appear only for Node.js sites.
- Contact NitHost support if your account or plan needs to change.
Plans and quotas
Site creation can be limited by your account's site quota and plan. Storage and transfer allowances depend on your hosting service. See Plans and usage; contact NitHost support to discuss a plan change.
